Starting from January 1, 2007, the Chinese embassy does not accept the renewal any more because the China government just issued a new version of the passport. So you need to change for a new one. Go to the Chinese Embassy website and read it through carefully.
Several things you need to pay attention to:
- You need to go to the embassy office, such as DC office.
- You need to prepare a mail-back package (priority mail package is fine) so the officer can mail the passport back to you.
- They will not accept the photos taken in CVS or Eckerd, just simply saying yours is not ok. They will take one for you there, $10 for one person.
- The address for the DC office is 2201 Wisconsin Avenue, NW. Right behind this building, there is a parking lot. You can park the car there (it is really hard to find a parking along the street). $4 for one hour and $6 for two. The parking fee may increase over time.
- It will take about an hour for the whole process.
