When I checked the windows update icon, it told me ALL updates had been installed !I was astonished !The time indicated for the download and installation consumed 12 1/2 hours !Evidently Although my system is 64 bits the listed requirements did not specify 32 bits. Windows update spends the better part of 2 hours searching for updates and another hour or so of 0% downloading and I have over 200 Updates pending. see it here

I just left it alone and I think it eventually prompted me to install the ~110 updates or so after 4-6 hours. Take a close look at what you are updating and what failed and you may see a connection. They both use the same code, so some of the hotfixes may be for both operating systems. Solution 2 worked! However, when I attempted to install it stated update not for my system. I noticed the "Most recent check" date (9/12/16) was behind the "Updates were installed on" date (11/2/16) in the Windows Update Control Panel window. his comment is here If you have more than one Antivirus program, uninstall one.
Apparently installing KB3138612 had fixed whatever issue was preventing the Standalone Installer from finding the updates once expanded. I am running windows vista ultimate, 32bit .
