asaz989February 29th, 2016, 09:51 PMJust solved a weird issue I was having, so here's the solution in case anyone else has run into it. I can't vouch for the origin though, but it does not appear to belong specifically to the Dell DW1830 card. But Wi-Fi requires a proprietary firmware: https://github.com/OpenELEC/wlan-firmware/blob/master/firmware/brcm/brcmfmac43602-pcie.bin so the easiest is to take a Debian netinstall with proprietary firmwares included. Projected battery life wasn't great (a little under 4 hours), but that might be partly because I was downloading/installing a bunch of kernels and rebooting a whole bunch.
It is possible to install the Synaptics drivers through a hack, but it never gets quite the same level of functionality as a regular Synaptics device.Overall, it is an excellent trackpad. The larger chassis of the XPS 15 begs for upward-facing speakers next to the keyboard—this would have been a much better choice for both design and performance, in my opinion. I cannot boot Ubuntu in Raid On. Still, I wish they'd used a faster panel.Thanks for your time.
I think it was choking on that I use a bluetooth audio receiver always + logitech g602 2.5 ghz wireless connection dongle.
The 15″ Samsung was not going to cut it for a few different reasons.
Brightness is set to very low and I can barely get 3 hours or so.
Only change I made in the install process was the partition to install GRUB to: installer auto detected /dev/nvme, I changed it to /dev/nvme0n1.
I asked in Dell community foruns about linux compatability for this laptop, and the silent there is profund...

Setting to RAID again will revert everything, have to go through all the reboots again to get Windows boot again. PS Some info on BCM BT firmware loading mechanism in this (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1065400) older bugreport. When notebookcheck does it, they tend to find out those part numbers. Some supported modes: 800x600, 1024x768, 1280x720, 1920x1080i 1920x1080i is interlaced and awful to look at.
