That's what I do because my monitor doesn't have USB ports, and I'm too lazy to get under the desk to connect a flash drive directly to the PC.
When I link the devices directly to the motherboard using the USB connections on the computer, I do not have a problem.
Sometimes that works by forcing the operating system to scan for hardware, like the USB port, and makes it work again.
It's NOT a hardware issue.
