The ONLY way to determine whether or not it is the hard drive, or the converter, is to separate them and test them individually.....
it isn't THAT specific converter there, but you can get the idea.
namely the fact that the USB2SATA converter shows up, but the hard drive is inaccessible, actually only points to their being *A* problem...
I can see the drive, and it says working properly, but there's no way for me to open it, it seems thus far.
The odd problem is this : My external 1TB seagate USB+ HDD 5400rpm works on laptops well.

BUT THIS WAS SIMPLE, HONEST, AND TO THE POINT VERY PRACTICAL. http://wisteme.com/hard-drive/trying-to-initialize-hdd-sata-drive.html I'm guessing the laptop has USB2 (not 3) ports, and those can supply only 0.5 amps power to a connected device, certainly NOT enough to run a common SATA HDD. There also are adapters or cases that can use an eSATA port. The only way to know for sure, is to remove the hard drive from the external enclosure, and try it either on a direct SATA connection, or another converter.EDIT: I've tried Usb 2.0 To Sata/ide Cable Driver Download Windows 10
