when I give the hdd power, it still sounds like its booting up and the comp with the new hd sees it as a usb device but it doesn’t show up So can I remove the 2.5 inch drive and recover data with an enclosure? when i connected the seagate to the usb of the tv the hd drive can access power from it. External Hard Disk Detected But Not Opening laptop drives are almost always the smaller physical size - 2½" or maybe smaller while desktop and server drives tend to be the 3½" variant. Windows 8.1.

I went to a PC technician too, and when he plugged the hard drive to his laptop (windows 7) my drives autoplayed and opened all the partitions, and when we started Assign Drive Letter The other main reason is that the drive simply is not being recognized by Windows or Mac and therefore won't even show up on your system at all. The legacy format that is most compatible is FAT32, but it limits you to only 4 GB for max file size. Could explain me as a layman.. I plugged it into my friends computer and it had no problems. The chances are slim that it will work, but you might be one of the lucky few where it actually works.

You can try fixing this by first going to the command prompt (Start and type in CMD) and running the following command: set devmgr_show_nonpresent_devices=1 Once you do that, open Device Manager They still work on my 7 machine just fine.
